Corgipoos - Corgi Poodle Mix

Corgipoos are an adorable breed which is a corgi poodle mix. They are energetic, smart, and what makes them even more special is that they are considered hypoallergenic.

We have had corgis for years and they are wonderful companions. The problem is, however, that they shed - a lot. Mixing a corgi with a poodle takes the best characteristics of both breeds and combines them into one fantastic puppy!

The puppies (corgipoos) are born and cared for in our home, being given much love. With a large family, there is never a lack of love and attention for them!

As they get older, we have a puppy play area in our yard where they can play with one another, enjoy fresh air, yet still be protected from harm.

Our Corgipoos' Parents are Our Family Pets

I would like to introduce you to the puppies parents. And, to be clear, these are our family pets. They go with us daily to the vineyard and are present during all aspects of our farm activities and most family events.

Jingles

Jingles is our red and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi who loves all aspects of farm life. If asked, her special love is herding the cows - even if they don't need it!!

Jingles had her first litter Aug. 22, 2020 and had five adorable puppies. As I said, she is our family pet so, I did not let her mate with Bernie during her first heat cycle as it is suppose to be better for her.

As long as she is healthy, we will continue to have puppies because she seems to love having them and is such an attentive mother!

Schnuki

Schnuki is a red headed, sable corgi with a very sweet personality. Her name is a throw back to our time living in Switzerland. In Swiss German, Schnuki means something close to "sweetie pie".

Bernie

Bernie, the father of our puppies is a mud puddle loving Shihpoo.  If you asked his thoughts on fatherhood, it would probably be something like, "I could do without the little guys!"

Once puppies are born, he still seems uncertain of them but definitely curious.

Bernie is a laid back, mild mannered dog that everyone likes. He never meets a stranger.

Flopsy (Retired)

Flopsy is named "Flopsy" because one ear flops over. I expect she will be ready to breed in January 2021. She is a tricolored corgi with a loving and gentle personality. When excited, she just wiggles all over!

The One Who Started it All - Bangles

Bangles was the mother of our first puppies. She was a tri colored Pembroke Welsh Corgi, loved to play fetch and sometimes carried sticks longer than she was! Like most corgis, she always smiled!

Questions About Corgipoos

Is a corgipoo hypoallergenic?

Because of the poodle mix, The Corgipoo is considered a hypoallergenic dog. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi sheds considerably. In talking with folks who have our puppies, we have found that no matter which parent's coat the puppy resembles, they will at the least, shed way less than a corgi.

I have spoken with two vets who both say that it is completely dog dependent within the breed. But, if they shed, it will be considerably less than a corgi.

What do corgipoos puppies look like?

You can see from our past litters that our puppies are typically two colorations. Both color variations have maintained a more corgi look with the short stocky legs and ears that stand up (mostly).

Jingles had the tri colored puppies and also red/sable and white puppies.

Bangles had a tri colored, corgi look and a more white puppy with black and/or brown spots. The white puppies still maintained the corgi look and all to my knowledge have ears that stand up - like a corgi.

What do adult corgipoos look like?

How large does a corgipoo get?

The size of corgipoos depends to a great extent upon the size of the parents. Our puppies are typically between 17 lbs and 22 lbs full grown.

What is the typical lifespan?

The typical lifespan of corgipoos is around 12 years - very similar to both the corgi and poodle.

Are there any potential health problems to be aware of with a corgi poodle mix?

I have been asked about genetic testing for our dogs. Potential health problems that are seen in a pure bred dog, are generally not a problem with a designer mix.

That being said, the parents are our family pets and they run, play and work with us. They are very healthy, have vet checks regularly and are fed quality dog food.

Is a corgipoo an indoor or outdoor dog?

One of the endearing qualities of a corgipoo is their ability to adapt. They love being anywhere that their people are! So, they do well inside or outside.

Is a corgipoo a high energy dog?

As with any puppy, they do have energy and need attention. A misbehaving puppy is often a sign of boredom. So, to remedy any behavioral problems, try giving your puppy more attention.

Do corgipoos need grooming?

From our past puppy owners, a corgipoo does not need grooming. I have spoken with a couple of folks that do like to trim around their dog's face a bit to get rid of wispy hair.

This goes along with other websites that claim corgipoos do not need grooming. This makes the breed even more affordable and in need of less maintenance. Baths are all you need!

Are there other names for corgipoos?

In looking for other names, I did find "corgi doodle" used by other sites and a "corgi-poodle mix".

What dog food do you use?

I use Purina Puppy Chow for our puppies and Purina Dog Chow for our adult dogs. I have had several vets recommend Purina to me and find it affordable without sacrificing quality.
